The Great Tomato Giveaway and Gardener's Fair is Saturday

There is going to be a great event on Saturday at the Sturbridge Common. Ellen Duzak and friends have put it together and below is an excerpt from my article (more shameless self promotion) in The Sturbridge Times Magazine.

The Great Tomato Plant Giveaway and Gardeners Fair (will) be held at the Sturbridge Common on the 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You might remember the old Worcester institution, Spag’s. You could tell Spring was here as they would give away free tomatoes. Many a person from Central Mass had the pleasure of that first tomato sandwich of Summer courtesy of Mr. Borgatti’s store. No one can bring Spag's back but you will be able to take home a seedling to put in your garden just in time for planting season. Ellen hopes it will inspire folks to raise their own and eat locally.

At the fair will be twenty booths. There will be farmers, nurseries, as well as private citizens with perennials, vegetables and herbs. You can go from booth to booth to get all you will need for your garden. If you want more than just the garden, check the cookbooks to help you use what you grow.

Lambs from Old Sturbridge Village will come. The Southbridge Garden Club will sponsor Lynn Hartman of Hartman’s Herb Farm to talk about container gardens and raised beds. There will be no lack of childrens’ events. About noon, local performer, Rob Adams will be there singing with friends. It will be a full day.
